Mawlana Hazar Imam is in Portugal to receive the 2013 North-South Prize of the Council of Europe. During his two-day visit to Lisbon, Hazar Imam is expected to meet with President Aníbal Cavaco Silva and other senior government leaders.
Mawlana Hazar Imam was invited by Brown University President Christina Paxson to will deliver the 88th Stephen A. Ogden Jr ’60 Memorial Lecture on International Affairs on 10 March 2014 as part of the celebration of Brown’s 250th anniversary.
Mawlana Hazar Imam visited the Parliament of Canada on 27 February 2014, where he was invited by the Prime Minister to address a joint session of Parliament.
The Canadian RAYS OF LIGHT tour commenced in Edmonton, shortly after Canada Day in July 2013. It went on to visit Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal and Ottawa, before its final Canadian stop in Toronto.
On 27 November 2013, in a celemony held at the Delegation of the Ismaili Imamat in Ottawa, the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada presented Mawlana Hazar Imam with their highest honour — the 2013 Gold Medal.
The opening of the Ismaili Jamatkhana and Centre, Kinshasa on 16 August 2013 was a historic occasion for Ismaili Muslims in the Democratic Republic of Congo and around the world.
During his 11-day visit to India in September 2013, Mawlana Hazar Imam met with the Jamat of Western India and attended a banquet held in his honour by the Jamati institutions of India.
In September 2013, Mawlana Hazar Imam travelled to India to mark the completion of the restoration of Humayun’s Tomb, inaugurate the Aga Khan Academy in Hyderabad, meet with various AKDN institutions, and meet with the Jamat of Western India.
During a two-day visit to Bangladesh commencing 16 September 2013, Mawlana Hazar Imam held talks with senior government leaders and signed a protocol agreement between AKDN and the Government of Bangladesh. Hazar Imam also paid tribute to freedom fighters at the National Memorial for Martyrs in Savar and the Bangabadhu Memorial Museum.
Mawlana Hazar Imam travelled to Portugal in September 2013 for the presentation ceremony of the 12th Cycle of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, which took place in Lisbon’s São Jorge Castle. As part of his visit, Hazar Imam also held meetings with a number of senior Portuguese officials and presided over the signing ceremony of a renewed Memorandum of Understanding between the Catholic University of Portugal and the Aga Khan University.
The Harmony Project premiered before audiences at the Ismaili Centre, London on 13 and 14 April 2013. Written, directed and performed by members of the United Kingdom Jamat, the theatrical production follows the story of a group of fictional characters from completely different backgrounds, brought together to create a show.
In anticipation of the opening of the Aga Khan Museum in 2014, an art competition has been organized for children and youth in the Canadian Jamat. Participants are asked to look at these objects from the museum’s collection and use them as inspiration for creating their own original works of art.
Senior members of the Jamat from around the United Kingdom attended a Seniors Fair organised by the Aga Khan Social Welfare Board in June 2012.
On 4 April 2012, Mawlana Hazar Imam had a historic visit to Tajikistan, where he met with the leaders of the country’s newly-established Jamati institutions.
Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived in Singapore on 30 March 2012, after inaugurating an exhibition of art objects from the Aga Khan Museum collection at the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia. Amongst his other enagements while in Singapore, Hazar Imam will meet with the Far East Jamat.
Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived in Kuala Lumpur on 29 March 2012 for a two-day visit, during which he inaugurated an exhibition of art objects from the Aga Khan Museum collection at the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia. Hazar Imam then proceeded to Singapore to meet with the Far East Jamat.
In February 2012, the Ismaili Council for India organised a Jamati institutional dinner in honour of Princess Zahra, who was visiting Mumbai to review the ongoing expansion of the Prince Aly Khan Hospital.
On 20 February 2012, Princess Zahra visisted the Prince Aly Khan Hospital in Mumbai. The hospital is being expanded and Princess Zahra is the Chair of the Steering Committee for its redevelopment.
Mawlana Hazar Imam addressed a leadership dinner at the Urban Land Institute Europe Annual Conference held in Paris on 31 January 2012. In October 2011, the Urban Land Institute honoured Hazar Imam with the J.C. Nichols Prize for his commitment to the highest standards of responsible development.
