The Global STEM Festival 2021 is an opportunity for youth aged 5-18 to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), by creating and showcasing projects to the global Jamat — virtually.

In today’s rapidly changing world, certain skills such as critical thinking, analytical problem-solving, research, as well as technical skills are incredibly important, and will become even more so in the future. These skills can be developed right from when a child is born, and one way to do so is by exposing them to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) related activities.

With this objective in mind, the Aga Khan Education Boards for Australia and New Zealand, Canada, France, Portugal, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America along with ITREBs invite you to participate in the Global Stem Festival, a celebration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The Global STEM Festival continues a long history of the Ismaili Community’s engagement in knowledge, intellectual enquiry, and learning more about the world, so as to make a contribution to improving the lives of ourselves and others.

Following on from last year’s success, GSF 2021 theme is "creating real life solutions for real life problems". When creating the STEM projects, we encourage participants to use the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (such as promoting good health and wellbeing, education and gender equality and more) and how they apply to our everyday life as well as on a global level. This festival is designed to help equip participants to understand these problems, find sustainable solutions and consider their real-life applications. This will allow for exploration of the natural and created world around us, and further develop important skills.

The Festival encourages youth ages 5-18 to explore STEM fields at home with their families, create a solution for a real-life challenge they’d like to work on — call it a mini-version of the real-world problems that developmental institutions such as the Aga Khan Development Network have to tackle — and then share it with the global Jamat.

Using a problem-solving framework and design thinking process, participants are free to engage in creating real-life solutions for real-life problems using STEM.

Register today at The.Ismaili — the steps are simple:

  1. Create your project (individually or in a group)

  2. Make a video (which can include a presentation, a collection of photos, drawings or written work)

  3. Upload your video to YouTube and submit the link through the submission form between 8-30 August.

  4. Join us for the Global STEM Festival Finale on 18-19 September. You will have an opportunity to view all the projects submitted from around the world.

The Festival is not a competition, but an opportunity to see the talent of the youth from around the world, and learn from one another. Although submissions are for youth ages 5-18, this is something that parents/guardians can also get involved in as these initiatives can affect all our lives!

Join us for this opportunity to learn, develop your skills, and share your work with the global Jamat. To register or to obtain more information, visit the Festival’s website.
