Preservation of a sound mind is among the foundational principles of Islam's ethical code, which strives to ensure the dignity and honour of each individual from day to day, throughout the course of life. Worldwide, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer, and can affect up to one in eight women. Like some other forms of cancer, the condition is treatable, and over 90 per cent of cases are successfully treated when detected early. Men can also be diagnosed with breast cancer in rare instances, with approximately one out of every 100 cases affecting men.
